Our Commitment
Bible Navigator is committed to making Scripture accessible to everyone. We strive to ensure that our website is usable by people of all abilities, including those who use assistive technologies.
Standards
We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. While we work toward full compliance, we acknowledge that some areas may not yet meet all success criteria.
Features
- Semantic HTML structure with proper heading hierarchy
- ARIA labels on interactive elements (navigation, buttons, search)
- Keyboard navigation support (arrow keys for chapters, Ctrl+K for quick jump)
- Adjustable font sizes (A-/A/A+ controls on reading pages)
- Dark mode for reduced eye strain
- Sepia mode for comfortable extended reading
- High contrast text on backgrounds (targeting WCAG AA minimum 4.5:1)
- Skip-to-content structure via semantic landmarks
- Alt text on images (with graceful fallback when images are unavailable)
- No auto-playing media or animations that cannot be paused
Known Limitations
- Some AI-generated images may lack detailed alt text descriptions
- Interactive maps (Leaflet.js) have limited keyboard accessibility
- Some color combinations in badges and decorative elements may not meet AAA contrast ratios
- The mega navigation menu may be challenging for some screen reader configurations
- The service worker and offline capabilities have not been fully tested with all assistive technologies
