Balaam's Donkey Speaks
In the Book of Numbers, Balaam, a non-Israelite prophet, was summoned by King Balak of Moab to curse the Israelites but continued his journey despite God's initial warning, motivated by the offer of reward. When an angel of the Lord blocked the path. Visible only to Balaam's donkey. The animal veered aside three times to avoid the divine messenger, leading Balaam to strike it repeatedly in anger. God then enabled the donkey to speak, confronting Balaam about the beatings and prompting him to see the angel, who rebuked his disobedience and instructed him to deliver only God's message. This event illustrates divine sovereignty over creation, the protection of Israel, and the biblical theme that God can use unexpected agents to enforce obedience and reveal truth.
