Uzzah's Death
During King David's effort to relocate the Ark of the Covenant from Baale-judah to Jerusalem, the sacred chest was placed on an ox-drawn cart rather than carried by Levites as prescribed in the Mosaic law. When the oxen stumbled, Uzzah reached out to steady the Ark and touched it, prompting God to strike him dead on the spot for violating the holiness requirements that reserved direct contact for authorized priests using poles. This incident halted the procession, instilled fear in David, and led to the Ark remaining at the house of Obed-edom for three months. It illustrates the scriptural emphasis on God's unapproachable sanctity and the necessity of precise obedience to His commands regarding worship.
