The Good Shepherd
In this parable addressed to the Pharisees Jesus presents Himself as the good shepherd who knows His sheep by name and leads them through the door into safety and pasture. Unlike the hired hand who flees at the first sign of threat this shepherd lays down His life of His own accord to rescue the flock from peril and death. The image underscores the depth of divine love and mercy at the center of redemption showing how the true shepherd gathers His own into one fold through willing sacrifice and intimate knowledge rather than mere duty.
