Lamp Under a Bushel
In this parable Jesus instructed his disciples that no one lights a lamp only to hide it under a bushel or a bed, but instead places it on a candlestick so that it gives light to everyone in the house. The image reveals the calling of believers to live as the light of the world, openly displaying good works that draw others to glorify their Father in heaven rather than concealing their faith. Within the larger redemptive story this teaching shows how the kingdom advances through visible, Spirit-empowered lives that bear witness to God's grace before a watching world.
