The Door / Gate
Throughout Scripture the door or gate marks the appointed way into God's provision and protection, beginning with the single door of the ark through which Noah's household entered to escape destruction. At the Exodus the blood upon the doors of Israelite homes turned away the angel of death, establishing a pattern of salvation by passing through a marked threshold. Jesus fulfills this type when he announces that he is the door, offering entry into the fold of safety and abundant life, yet he also describes the gate to eternal life as narrow, requiring deliberate passage that excludes the broad way of the world.
