The Rock
Throughout Israel's wilderness wanderings the rock at Horeb, when struck, poured forth water to sustain the thirsty nation, an event the apostle identifies as a picture of Christ himself supplying spiritual life. The psalms repeatedly celebrate the Lord as the rock of refuge and strength, a sure foundation that shields his people from every assault and remains immovable through generations. In the Savior's parable the wise builder who hears and obeys his words erects his house upon this same rock, so that neither flood nor tempest can bring it down, revealing Christ as the sole unshakeable basis for enduring faith and redemption.
