Living Water
In the Old Testament, God instructed Moses to strike a rock in the wilderness, releasing water to sustain the Israelites during their exodus journey and demonstrating divine provision amid hardship. Centuries later at Jacob's well, Jesus offered a Samaritan woman living water that would become a perpetual spring leading to eternal life, transcending physical thirst and exposing the limitations of ritual or ancestral claims. He later declared in Jerusalem that rivers of living water would flow from believers' hearts, a promise pointing directly to the Holy Spirit given after his glorification. Across Scripture this imagery consistently signifies the Spirit's life-giving presence and the purifying, renewing effect of God's word on those who receive it.
