Caleb
Caleb was one of the twelve Israelite spies sent by Moses to scout the Promised Land of Canaan. While ten of the spies returned with a discouraging report that incited fear among the people, Caleb and Joshua urged the Israelites to trust in God's promise and take possession of the land. As a result of their faithfulness, Caleb and Joshua were the only two adults from the generation that left Egypt who survived the forty years of wilderness wandering and entered Canaan. This account highlights the importance of faith and obedience in Scripture, serving as an example of how God rewards those who fully follow Him despite opposition.

Did You Know?
Caleb's ancestry traces to Jephunneh the Kenizzite, a clan absorbed into Judah that likely originated among non-Israelite groups near Edom, showing how outsiders could fully integrate into Israel's tribal structure.
At 85 Caleb requested and received Hebron as his allotment, personally driving out the Anakim giants Sheshai, Ahiman, and Talmai from the city that had terrified the other spies decades earlier.
Caleb offered his daughter Achsah in marriage to the warrior who captured Debir; after Othniel succeeded, Achsah herself boldly petitioned her father for upper and lower springs of water to sustain the land.
Although the ten unfaithful spies died immediately in a plague, Caleb and Joshua survived the entire 40-year wilderness period because their minority report demonstrated wholehearted trust in God's promise.
Caleb's name appears in later Judahite genealogies alongside Hur and other clan leaders, indicating his descendants formed a distinct Calebite subgroup that retained special rights around Hebron long after the conquest.
