Did You Know?

1

Jehosheba married Jehoiada the high priest, a union that gave her rare access to restricted temple chambers where she concealed the infant Joash among the dedicated rooms for the full six years of Athaliah's reign.

2

Her rescue preserved the sole surviving heir in David's covenant line, an act later cited in both 2 Kings and 2 Chronicles as the decisive factor enabling Jehoiada's coup against Athaliah in the Divided Monarchy period.

3

Jehosheba was the daughter of the notoriously wicked King Jehoram, whose earlier purge of his own brothers left few royal survivors, making her defiance of her sister-in-law Athaliah an especially high-stakes gamble.

4

By hiding Joash inside the Jerusalem temple complex rather than a private home, Jehosheba exploited the sanctuary's legal protections and ritual routines, shielding him even while Athaliah promoted Baal worship in the same city.

5

Biblical genealogies trace the messianic line through Joash, meaning Jehosheba's intervention is one of the few recorded moments when a woman directly ensured the continuation of the dynasty that would later produce the kings of Judah.
