Did You Know?
Elisheba's father Amminadab belonged to the tribe of Judah, making her brother Nahshon a direct ancestor of King David and forging a blood tie between the future monarchy and the high priesthood centuries before David's reign.
Her marriage to Aaron introduced Judahite ancestry into the exclusively Levitical priesthood, an intertribal union explicitly noted in Exodus 6:23 that later influenced interpretations of messianic lineage combining royal and priestly roles.
As mother of Nadab and Abihu, Elisheba endured the sudden deaths of her eldest sons for offering strange fire, an event that prompted immediate priestly regulations barring mourners from sanctuary duties to preserve ritual purity.
Elisheba is named only once in Scripture, yet the text deliberately records her Judahite pedigree to underscore the deliberate linking of tribal lines at the moment the priesthood was formally established.
Through her sons Eleazar and Ithamar, who survived to lead the priesthood, Elisheba became the sole woman whose immediate descendants held the high priestly succession for generations, including the line that eventually reached Zadok.
